Unable to cope with the crowd of parents seeking new textbooks, book shops in Kailali submitted a memorandum to the Sajha Prakashan here demanding supply of books without delay. [break]
The book sellers said that they have already paid for the books to Sajha two months ago, but have not been supplied with the books.
“Over half of the students in the farwestern region are still without textbooks. I have been facing immense pressure every day from the parents searching for textbooks,” Sanjay Chaudhari, a book seller said. He also informed that the textbook shortage in the farwestern region is perennial but this year it turned worse.
“Forty trucks of textbooks are needed for the region. But the publication does not have books to supply,” said Chaudhari adding that the government is playing with the future of thousands of school student in the region.
“I had paid the money for 300 sets of textbooks two months ago. But, I have not received any textbook so far,” Hari Kumar Shrestha, proprietor of Ganesh Book Shop at Sukhkhad in Kailali said. “I need 8,000 sets of books from grade one to grade eight,” he added. Shrestha also informed that book sellers have to face public anger if the books are not supplied on time.
The book sellers submitted memorandum to Sajha Prakashan´s farwestern regional office chief Dhirendra Khanal. They demanded that either Sajha should supply textbooks on time or allow private sector publishers to print and sell the books.
Khanal informed that out of 710,900 sets of textbooks demanded, there is shortage of 200,000 textbooks in the region.
