BIRGUNJ, Aug 25: Mayoral aspirants of two groups have clashed in Birgunj two days after Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) decided to take part in the third phase of local elections.

The clashes took place at a program participated by observers and leaders of various levels held at Kumu Palace Hotel. The cadres of both the groups shouted slogans after clashes, disrupting the gathering.

The gathering was called to select the candidates for local levels including Birgunj Metropolitan City.

Two groups - one led by Bimal Shreewastav and the other by Rajeshman – clashed with each other in front of central vice chairman of the party and observer Bijaya Gupta.

The cadres of both the groups started shouting slogans as soon as a rally led by central general secretary Rajesh Man Singh reached the spot.

There was a rivalry between Shreewastav and Singh over who would get the ticket of mayoral candidate of Birgunj Metropolitan City.
