KATHMANDU, July 14: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has directed telecommunications and internet service provider (ISP) companies to maintain and operate their services and address any complaints received from their clients during the crisis caused by incessant rainfall in different parts of the country.

Issuing a press statement, the ministry instructed the service providers to address the complaints regarding telephone tower, optical fiber, equipment, and machineries as soon as possible.

The incessant rainfall has caused floods and landslides in different parts of the country. “There was a problem in Biratnagar on Saturday morning due to the collapse of a bridge in Bardibas municipality,” said Pratibha Baidya, spokesperson at Nepal Telecom, adding, “A team was dispatched for the maintenance as soon as we were notified of the situation.”

The telecommunication problem was solved the very day. “We have our monitoring team on standby in case any problem occurs,” she further added.

Binay Bohra, managing director at Vianet Communications, an internet service provider, said: “Problems about internet service have not been reported till now.” However, some complaints about internet being slow were reported in some places of Tarai region due to electricity line cut, according to Bohra.
