Tamu Lhosar observed in capital

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: People from Gurung Community observed Tamu Lhosar by organizing various programs in Kathmandu today.

The Gurung Community observes Lhosar as its New Year. Here, 'Lho' refers to the year and 'Sar' means to change. The main organizing committee of Tamu Lhosar has said that the Gurungs are bidding farewell to 'Pig year' and welcoming 'Mouse year' today.

Tamu Lhosar marks the beginning of the Gurung calendar year. The festival is observed on the 15th day of Nepali month Poush.

 According to Buddhist culture, 12 years are named after animals; each year is ruled by one animal in the cycle.

The Gurung Community organized a rally at Rathnapark to mark the celebration of Tamu Lhosar. People from the community performed cultural dances attiring in traditional dresses. They exchanged greetings on the occasion.

President Bidya Devi Bandari participated in the special program organized at Tudikhel today. Similarly, various sports have been organized since December 29 to observe the festival.
