KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The proposal of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to forge electoral alliance of Nepali Congress with CPN (Maoist Center) has been rejected.

In a meeting held at Baluwatar on Tuesday morning between PM Deuba, NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Maoist Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the NC proposed for the poll alliance among the largest ruling coalition.

The NC has proposed its coalition partner CPN (MC) to conduct the elections by the incumbent government, giving continuity to the two parties' alliance while the latter is in touch with the CPN (UML) for an electoral alliance and eventually for party unification.

According to a source, chair Dahal, however, in response, said that the country is moving ahead for dual-party system and hence the alliance among the ruling coalition is not possible. “We are focused on leftist unification. You take initiation for rightist alliance”, said the source quoting Dahal. During the meeting, chair Dahal assured PM Deuba of continuous support till upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and the State Assemblies scheduled later this year.

“We urged him for the alliance in the election”, said leader Poudel and added, “We are still trying to form the coalition with Maoist.”

Press meet at 5 PM

CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) are organizing joint press meet on Tuesday to announce the electoral alliance and the party unification between two parties. According to the secretariat of chair Dahal, the press meet will be held at City Hall at 5 PM.

The two parties have signed an agreement to share 60/40 seats in Parliament and Provincial assembly. It is learned that the parties are also preparing to make public a declaration paper although they will not share a common election symbol. Similarly, the parties have agreed to form a joint committee to facilitate the parties for the unification after the elections.

However, differing to the party’s decision, secretariat members of MC Matrika Yadav, Prabhu Shah, Mani Thapa and Gopal Kirati have registered note of dissent at party’s secretariat.

MC has formed a three-member high-level committee led by party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur Thapa are members of the committee.
