KATHMANDU, Sept 28: An overflowing Manohara river induced by the incessant rainfall since Thursday has entered homes along its corridor in Imadol, Lalitpur, on Saturday morning.
A large number of people living in squatters and ground floor of houses next to the river corridor have been displaced after the water level of the river rose to an alarming level overnight after continuous rain.
Flooded Manohara River damages property worth Rs 7.5 million
The overflowing river has completely covered the corridor roads on either side, making them untraversable for the public. The floodwater has reached over some of the bridges affecting vehicular movement across the river.
Heavy rainfall over the past three days has led to significant flooding in the rivers of Kathmandu valley, impacting areas such as Shivapuri, Sundarijal, and Godavari.
The Meteorological Forecast Division (MFD) has reported that water level in the Bagmati River has exceeded the danger thresholds, particularly in Khokana, Gaurighat and Balkhu areas.
The Bishnumati River has also surpassed safety limits at Gongabu Bus Park. The MFD had earlier informed the general public through an SMS alert to remain cautious if they planned to travel in the said areas after 2:30 pm on Friday.
