Swimmer Sirish Gurung feted

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Olympian Sirish Gurung was felicitated by Nepal Swimming Association in Kathmandu for breaking national record during the Rio Olympics.

National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista handed Rs 80,000 to during the occasion.

Sirish, who set the national record in 100 meters freestyle event in the Rio Olympics, was awarded as per the pre announcement made by different organizations including Nepal Swimming Association, Nepal Taekwondo Association, Bhat Bhateni Super Market and Nepal Volleyball Association’s President Manoranjan Sharma. 

On the occasion, Nepal Swimming Association handed him Rs 35,000, Nepal Volleyball Association’s president handed Rs 25,000, Nepal Taekwondo Association handed Rs 10,000 and Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket handed Rs 10,000. 

On the same occasion, Nepal Swimming Association awarded swimmer Sofiya Shah with Rs 10,000 for setting national records in seven different events of swimming during the 12th South Asian Games. 

Similarly, other swimmers Shritika Singh, Sonira  Bista, Anubhav  Subba, Subham Shrestha and Manish Chitrakar who also  had  set national records in the 12th SAG in different events were awarded Rs 3,000 each and  letter of appreciation.
