ITAHARI, Aug 17: Altogether 3,266 dengue cases have been recorded in Sunsari district over the past three months and 3,173 were from Dharan alone. But only one person has died from the disease so far.

According to the three-month district hospital data collected from May 13 to August 13, Dharan saw the highest number of dengue patients followed by Itahari with 63 and Inaruwa with 30 cases.

As per the hospital record, 30-year-old Manu Sunuwar of Dharan ward no 15 is the only casualty of the dengue virus. The provincial government is planning to launch awareness campaign targeting students Grade 8-12 students.

District hospital chief, Sagar Prasain, stated that the awareness campaign will start next week.
“We have a team of 18 doctors who will run awareness campaign at schools for about a week,” added Prasain.

“As mosquito lays egg in stagnant water, it is important to keep the surroundings clean and dry in order to prevent the virus from spreading,” added Prasain.
