The Sunhak Peace Prize worth a million dollars was awarded to Kiribati President Anote Tong and fisheries scientist from India Dr. M. Vijay Gupta.
In 2005, Gupta was also awarded with the World Food Prize.
UPF President Dr. Thomas G Walsh, Vice-President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Philippines Jose de Venecia, Dan Burton- former US House of Representatives Congressman, Former Ukrainian President Leonid M Kravchuk, Former President of Paraguay Luis Federico Franco, Politician and First Lady of Fiji AdiKoila Mara Nailatikau and Member of the British House of Lords Nair Ahmed- among others- had addressed the conference.
Likewise, Nepal Constituent Assembly lawmaker Eknath Dhakal, Grand Mufti of Bosnia Mustafa Ceric, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Rima Salah, also had addressed the conference.
Addressing the conference, Corporate Affairs Manager of the Nepal Republic Media, Sambridhi Gyawali said that economic progress is not the sole indicator for peace and human development.
Gyawali said, ''High net domestic production is not enough to end poverty and establish peace.'' The NRM Corporate Affairs Manager further added that an inclusive strategy encompassing human capital, education, good governance and economic development can only contribute to and ensure the progress of the people of the South Asian region, thus uplifting the overall status of this region.
