The Association’s General Secretary Megh Raj Paudel informed that the players will take part in two categories—lead climbing and top rope—in the tournament which will be played at the Pasang Lhamu Sports Climbing Center in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu.

The organizers said that they expected participation of 50-55 players in lead climbing and 50-60 in top rope in both men’s and women’s categories.

The winners of lead climbing will take home Rs 15,000 each, while the runner-ups will be rewarded with Rs 10,000 each. Similarly, the third-placed players will bag Rs 5,000 each. There is no provision of cash prize in top rope climbing.

Paudel said that they were planning to take part and prepare themselves for the Asian Games which will be held in Indonesia this year and Olympics which will be held in Japan after two years.

“We will start the initiative through the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) to take part in the Asian Games including the winners of this tournament,’’ Paudel said. “We are trying to conform the participation of Nepali players coordinating with the government, the National Sports Council (NSC) and NOC for the Olympic Games.’’

NCSA President Hari Prasad Dharel expressed his commitment of organizing the tournament every year in memory of sports journalist Suman Bhomjan who lost his life in Earthquake 2015.  Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) President Mahesh Acharya said that the tournament is being organized on the day Bhomjan’s body was found, which is marked as the Suman Bhomjan Memorial Day.
