KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport in Ilam, which had been closed for the past three months, is set to resume operations from today.
With the onset of the monsoon and due to bad weather, flights from the closed Sukilumba Airport are set to resume from today, according to Dinesh Sundas, the station in-charge of Sukilumba Airport in Ilam.
Flights resume at Phalgunanda Sukilumba Airport in Ilam
Since May 26, no flights have been possible after a Nepal Airlines aircraft took off. Similarly, on May 30, a flight from Kathmandu to Ilam could not land due to bad weather and had to return to Kathmandu.
Last Thursday, a flight was scheduled, but it couldn't take place due to a lack of passengers. In-charge Sundas stated that flights will not resume until there is an improvement in the weather and that there is a plan to operate flights every Thursday.
Nepal Airlines had been operating Kathmandu–Ilam–Kathmandu flights since January 15, 2023. Previously, Nepal Airlines conducted two flights per week, on Sundays and Thursdays, but now it has been announced that flights will only take place on Thursdays.
Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport is located in Ilam Municipality-9. From here, it has been convenient for travelers from the hilly district of Ilam, as well as Panchthar and various parts of India, to travel to and from Kathmandu.
