KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Sudurpashchim Province Chief Devraj Joshi has called upon provincial assembly members to submit the claim to the post of chief minister.
The province chief issued a statement on Wednesday calling for the formation of a new government in the province. As no one party has a single majority in the Provincial Assembly, according to Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, the province chief has given a time limit of seven days to appoint the leader of the parliamentary party of any party which has a clear majority with the support of two or more parties in the Sudurpashchim Province to stake claim for the post.
Parties have been asked to stake a claim by 5 pm on January 11. The 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly requires support of 27 MPs to form a new government.
