KATHMANDU, August 3: In Tuesday's meeting of the House of Representatives, the MPs of the ruling parties criticized the government for not adjusting the prices of petroleum products even though they have been reduced twice. Aman Lal Modi, the MP of the ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) expressed his displeasure saying that even though the Indian Oil Corporation had reduced the price of petroleum products twice, Nepal Oil Corporation has not adjusted the price accordingly. He drew the attention of the government saying that due to the increase in the price of petroleum products, corruption has become rampant.

Prem Suwal, member of parliament from Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, accused the government of not providing relief to the people by adjusting the prices even though the price of petroleum products has decreased in the international market. 

Janata Samajwadi Party MP Renuka Gurung said that a rocket bomb was hit inside the gate of her house. She said that when she heard the sound of the bomb, she looked out the window and saw two men running away on a motorcycle, but could not recognize them because it was dark.

She said that after everyone in the house panicked, she called the Maharajganj police station, when the police came and looked, they found a shell of a rocket bomb and the police took it away. According to her, a bomb was detonated inside the gate of the house on Monday at 8:25 PM. She demanded that she be provided with PSOs for life as she is a former minister of state.

MP Dila Sangraula of the ruling Nepali Congress said farmers are not getting chemical fertilizers. If there is a legal problem in bringing fertilizer, what is stopping the amendment of the Public Procurement Act, she asked and drew the attention of the government to provide fertilizers to the farmers as soon as possible. She said that even though MPs have drawn the government's attention from the House since May about farmers not getting fertilizer, it has not been available yet.

Congress Chief Whip Meen Bahadur Bishwakarma protested against police beating of protesting students when Nepal Chakraborty College raised the law faculty study fee. He brought to the attention of the House that the college has suddenly increased the BALLB course fee from Rs 712,000 to Rs 10,70,000 and the LLM fee from Rs 323,000 to 568,000.

Objection to arrest warrant

During the meeting of the House of Representatives, the MPs expressed objection to the Lalitpur District Court’s order on Monday to issue a 35-day arrest warrant against CPN General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand. 

UML's Chief Whip Vishal Bhattarai said that although the Chand-led Maoists once chose the path of violence, the then Prime Minister KP Oli-led government brought them to a peaceful path by agreeing on three points.

The Oli government claimed that the politics of violence had ended because CK Raut, who was leading a separatist movement in the Terai, had also been brought into the political mainstream. He accused the present government of trying to condone violence by issuing arrest warrants against party leaders and activists who had come to peaceful politics. "The Chand group is moving forward by accepting the current system and registering as a political party, so I urge you to encourage it," he said.

Maoist Center MP Yashoda Gurung Subedi said it was wrong to issue arrest warrants against the leaders and activists of the Chand-led party because they joined mainstream politics one and a half years ago by signing a three-point agreement with the government. 

Another MP from the Maoist Center, Aman Lal Modi, also said that the government should take steps to withdraw the arrest warrant issued against the leaders and activists of the Chand-led CPN-Maoist. He argued that the government should not issue arrest warrants instead of releasing the leaders and activists of the party currently in jail on the basis of the three-point agreement. The Chand-led group had announced on 4 March , 2021 that they had given up the politics of violence by agreeing to the three-point agreement with the government.
