SURKHET, June 12: Chief Minister (CM) of Karnali Province, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has said that a study to collect data of Karnali citizens going to India for employment purposes is currently underway. Stating that hundreds of thousands of Nepalis leave for India every year, CM Shahi said various problems have occurred due to the lack of statistics.

Addressing a program, 'Human Rights Situation in Karnali' organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for the first time since the establishment of the Karnali Provincial Office on Sunday, CM Shahi said that preparations were being made to collect data on those going to India in coordination with the local bodies.

"The provincial government is preparing to collect data on the number of citizens going to India from Karnali and the amount of remittances collected from them at the local level," he said. "Based on these statistics, we plan to employ the manpower going to India in our own province," he added.
