KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Students affiliated to the Nepal Students Union (NSU), a sister wing of the Nepali Congress, have taken to streets to uniquely protest against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The students walked backwards to New Baneshwor in the capital as they started their protest march from Maitighar, referring to the ‘regressive’ move taken by PM Oli.

The students chanted slogans against PM Oli as they claimed that the latter has dragged the country towards a reverse gear through ‘unconstitutional’ dissolution of the lower house of parliament.

Upon the recommendation of PM Oli on December 20, last year,  President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the HoR and announced new election dates for April 30 and May 10 later this year.

Following the dissolution, as many as 14 writ petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court demanding house restoration. Meanwhile, various political parties including a rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have expressed strong exceptions against PM Oli’s move.
