KATHMANDU Jan 29: Students pursuing MBBS degree in different private medical colleges took out a rally in protest against the alleged charging of high fee under various headings.

The students staged a protest rally at Maitighar Mandala today under the leadership of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Free Students' Union. IOM FSU chair Dr Milan Gaire said that the private colleges were charging fees other than those determined by the government.

The IOM has already issued a notice urging students and their guardians to not pay additional fee. Accordingly, the college administration can charge the students for exam, hostel and food only.
The ceiling set by the government for MBBS degree fee in the medical college inside the valley is Rs. 3.8 million and Rs. 4.2 million outside the valley.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement today, the Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance has demanded that the concerned authorities initiate action on the charge of black-marketing and fraud against the medical colleges fleecing their students.
