Students of Tri-Chandra College demand revival of Sanskrit department

KATHMANDU

A group of 13 students in Tri-Chandra College, Ghantaghar, has demanded the revival of Sanskrit department in the college. The dormant Sanskrit department has not been accepting applications although faculty has been appointed, according to the students.

The students submitted a letter to the college administration on Monday seeking admission to study Sanskrit. "Sanskrit is at the centre of our civilization. Its negligence has hampered the creative power of our civilization," the letter reads. "We want to study Sanskrit so that we can stand on the shoulder of giants of our civilization to improvise."

Upendra Rajbanshi, who is currently studying Psychology at Tri-Chandra, says that any obstruction to study Sanskrit is unacceptable in the age of originality.

Another current student demanding admission, Prasiddhi Khatiwada says, "To refer to important texts of our culture, we need to study books by foreign translators. This needs to end. We should be equipped to learn about ourselves and our civilization."

The college administration accepted the letter from students and assured them to make necessary arrangements.
