KATHMANDU, March 4: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the people could stop him from entering Madhesh tagging him as an anti-Madhes leader but they should not stop the water to be supplied by the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project (SMDMP).
Addressing a program after laying the foundation stone of the project at Kusumtar of Sindhuli on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli said that he would like to convey a message through Province 2 Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut to Madhesh that he would supply water to Tarai-Madhes even if he was not allowed to enter the region.
“In the past, some people tagged me as an anti-Madhes leader and talked about stopping me from entering Madhes. However, now I am sending water to Madhes for irrigation.”
On the occasion, PM Oli also said that the SMDMP will connect the hill and terai regions of the country. “The project will irrigate 85,000 bighas of land and also generate 31 megawatts of electricity,” Oli added.
