KATHMANDU, Oct 19: The Food Management and Trading Company Limited (FMTCL) is selling live goats at Rs 560 per kilogram starting Monday from its office in Thapathali, Kathmandu.

The state-owned company determined the price after 610 goats were brought to Kathmandu from Dang and Makawanpur districts for the Dashain festival.

The state-owned trading company has brought 405 goats from Dang and 205 goats from Makawanpur districts as per its plan to bring a total of 1,000 goats from these two districts for the Dashain festival.

According to Information Officer at FMTCL Sharmila Neupane, customers will get a Rs 10 discount per kilogram in their purchase. The FMTCL will start selling the goats at Rs 550 from 8 am Monday from the premises of its office in Thapathali.

Three trading companies run under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply have run fair price shops and given discounts in various goods to consumers in view of the Dashain festival, which is one of the greatest festivals of Hindu people. The FMTCL said the Rs 10 per kg discount was given to consumers as per the government's policy to provide goods and services at fairer prices in view of the Dashain festival.

The company, however, shelved its plan this year to bring sheep to Kathmandu from Mustang as local farmers demanded exorbitantly higher prices of sheep as compared to the previous year.
