He is now being questioned about his decision to inform journalists about the involvement of 18 policemen in the jailbreak incident. SSP Phuyal had organized a press meet on November 27 to make public the findings of the probe committee.

The Police Headquarters has said that Phuyal´s act had affected the ongoing investigation of the central probe committee led by Director General of Department of Prison Management Shambhu Koirala. “

"It is good to form a probe committee at the local level to investigate such incident”," said Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Keshav Adhikari. However, they should have informed the headquarters before making their findings public. The move might not have resulted from any ill-intention, but the process they followed was not correc”," DIG Adhikari further added.

The Koirala probe committee has concluded that police negligence was the main cause behind the jail break but it refrained from naming the policemen.

According to Shankar Koirala, the spokesperson at the ministry of Home Affairs, the process of taking action against those policemen found guilty is already under way as per the recommendation of the central probe committee.

The Phuyal probe committee had recommended action against 18 policeperson including one police inspector, two sub-inspectors and 3 assistant sub-inspectors.

Twelve jailbirds had tunneled 80 meter long underground passage to flee from the Jhumka jail on November 8. Two of the fugitives have already been arrested from India.
