Emotions like joy, sorrow, happiness, etc can ignite a creative being to build characters for stories. And Ujeli Sunar who bagged ‘Utkrista Illustrator 2019’ by Kathabachak Samaj is one such creative youth, getting inspired by emotions for her stories. She illustrates for children’s story books as well as she illustrate new animated characters. She is also an animator and painter. She believes creating art is her way of expressing her joy. “I remember that I applied for many art competitions and I usually come home winning something from such competitions. But I never stopped creating art. Anything that attracts my eyes, I remember it and later I draw them. I remember the way the light falls on something, their shadows and colors,” said Ujeli.

Through her art she wants to spread joy to her viewers. She said, “Whoever sees it, I want them to experience happiness looking at it. I create with my free will without thinking much about what the society is going to say about my art and how they look at my profession.” However, during her initial phase she was shy and could not draw breasts in her female characters. “When I was in ninth grade, I used to sketch girls but I was too shy to draw breasts. But my exposure to outer world such as competitions, meeting people and observing them helped me create art in an easier way and no matter how hard it was for me to follow my dream to be an artist, I never gave up. I realized that to grow we need to come out from the four walls of our house,” she added.
Her love for art began as a hobby and became her profession. She has earned a master’s degree in art and she opts for perfection in her work.
