SPORTS BRIEFS: EPS defeats GCA

KATHMANDU: EPS registered a 61-run victory over GCA on Sunday in the Chief of Army Staff Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament. In the match played at the Army School Ground, EPS won the toss and scored 148 runs losing six wickets. Samrat Khanal scored 26 runs off 25 balls while Aatish Karki scored 25 runs off 21 balls. Gagan Pathak grabbed two wickets for GCA. Chasing the target, GCA was restricted to 87 runs in 15.4 overs. Nikesh Devkota, Rahul Chaudhary, Aatish Karki and Saurav Mahato took two wickets each. Amrit Thapa scored 24 runs for GCA while Dipendra Shah scored 13 runs.



Bijeshwari completes title hat-trick



KATHMANDU: Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir on Sunday achieved a title hat-trick in the Kathmandu District President Running Shield trophy. Bijeshwari dominated athletics to lift the trophy for the third consecutive time with 71 points. Bijeshwari won 10 gold and seven silver medals. New Diamond Academy and Nepal Armed Police Force School finished joint second with 25 points each. In girls´ volleyball, New Diamond won gold defeating Angel´s Heart while Newton Academy won the boys´ category with a win over Deepjyoti School. Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond and Bishnu Adhikari of Newton were adjudged the best players in the girls´ and boys´ sections respectively.



Angel´s Heart, TIA into semifinals



KATHMANDU: Angel´s Heart and TIA School have advanced into the semifinals of the Second NEA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the girls´ category. Juni Pun´s 10 points guided Angel´s Heart to a hard-fought 17-16 victory over Valley Public. TIA defeated host Nawajeevan English Academy (NEA) 32-18 with 12 points from Riya Thapa. In other matches of girls´ category, Bagmati overcame Siddhartha Vanasthali 22-17 while HHCA defeated Third Eye 19-12. In the boys´ category, Forward Academy saw off Valley Public 28-25, Kathmandu Valley beat Golden Peak 30-24, TIA registered a 31-24 win over Greenland while Innovative overcame Siddhartha Vanasthali 37-21.


Prashant Thapa wins school chess



KATHMANDU: Prashant Thapa on Sunday won the title of Inter-school Chess Tournament with six points from seven rounds. Despite scoring equal points as that of second-placed Bijay Dangol and third-placed Bibek Shrestha, Thapa won the title on the basis of superior progressive points. Thapa had 25.5 progressive points while Dangol and Shrestha had 24 and 23.5 respectively.
