Special taekwondo training kicks off

KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) on Monday started a special training for orphans and helpless children with the slogan of 'Lets build the future with taekwondo'. 

Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripali inaugurated the 10-month long program at the covered hall of the Dasharat Stadium where the children demonstrated their taekwondo skills. 

A total 270 children from seven different orphanages and dojang will take part in the training that is being run in the support of World Taekwondo federation (WTF). Children from Aradhana Taekwondo Dojang, Night Vision, Muskan Sewa, Necos Home, ECDC and Helpless Child Center of Pokhara will benefit from the training provided free-of-cost by NTA's coaches. 

NTA's General Secretary Deepraj Gurung informed that the training will be held in the respective organization and all the trainees will be provided with kits from the association.

He also informed that children participating in the training will also get opportunity to take part in different tournaments in the future. 

Speaking at the inauguration function, Minister Sripali said that such programs will be helpful to nurture young talents. “Taekwondo has been successful in bringing international recognition and fetching medals for the country. I believe such events will be helpful in making taekwondo's future bright in the country,” said Minister Sripali. 

Meanwhile, NTA's General Secretary Gurung said that the association is trying to develop taekwondo in the country through social activities as well. “As developing taekwondo is our primary objective, we also want to do it through social activities,” said Gurung.  

On the same occasion, NTA also nominated Roshik Unni Khan and Neel David Katwal as members of Para Taekwondo Committee under the NTA. Roshik is the CEO of Jagadamba Company while Neel David is a popular hairstylist of Nepal. NTA said that the nominations were to enhance the development of para-taekwondo in the country.
