Speaker Gharti, IPU President Chowdhury meet

KATHMANDU, May 8: Speaker Onsari Gharti and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President and Bangladesh MP, Mr Saber Hossain Chowdhury, held a meeting on Monday. 

During the meeting took place at the Speaker's Office, Singhadurbar, matters relating to bilateral concern and interests were discussed, according to the Speaker's press advisor Babin Sharma. 

The IPU President was learnt to have shown his concern over ongoing affairs in the Nepal's Legislature-Parliament and other contemporary affairs. Difficulties were being created to carry out parliamentary affairs in some of the countries and the IPU would take initiation to address such problems soon. 

On the occasion, the Speaker, briefing the IPU President about Nepal's contemporary political affairs, stated that Nepal was holding the first-round of local-level election within a couple of days and this election would be significant in terms of the enforcement of the constitution. 

Recalling her visit to the Chittagong Port in Bangladesh in course of attending the IPU latest meeting, the Speaker insisted on the creation of situation for Nepal so that it could use the port. 

She was of the view further consolidating the bilateral ties between two parliaments of Bangladesh and Nepal and intensifying the exchange of bilateral visits. On the occasion, she extended an invitation to the Bangladesh Speaker through MP Chowdhury for Nepal visit. RSS
