South Asian Women's Conference kicks off

KATHMANDU, August 6: The South Asian Women's Conference-2017 began here today. The All Nepal Women's Association has organized the conference with an objective of increasing women's participation in local governments of South Asian Countries. 

Inaugurating the Conference, CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli expressed happiness for getting significant achievement in the sector of women's empowerment in a short period in Nepal. He also said his party was committed for equal participation of women at the decision-making level. 

Also former Prime Minister, Chairman Oli said that the CPN (UML) was aware that there should be equal participation of women in all-level of the state for the development, and for social justice. 

Some 70 people including women lawmakers, civil society leaders, and women right activists from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka and are participating in the two-day conference. 

The two-day conference is organised to hold discussion over the issue of women participation in local government and to express solidarity with women politicians and right activists fighting for political rights of women in South Asia. RSS
