Souls of my city: Sincerity is the key

Souls of my city: Sincerity is the key

Twice a month, there runs a haat bazaar (open market) in Galpa village of Ramechhap. Farmers from different villages go there to sell meat, vegetables, fruits and other items. Many of them are old people. One such farmer is 62-year-old Kaji Man Tamang.

He hails from Sadhi village. On these two days, he walks a mile carrying a basket (Doko) full of oranges, banana, chilies and guavas. He grows these fruits on his own farm and sells them at the market. He has been coming to the haat bazaar since his childhood days. All his children are in Kathmandu. He prefers staying back in the village with his wife.

“I prefer walking to vehicles when I bring fruits to the bazaar. Since transporting goods through vehicles is costlier, I walk three hours and reach Galpa. I don't have any disease yet. Sometimes I have knee ache since I am getting older.

Other than that, I am good," said Kaji.  Tamang is also a member of ‘Krishi Kishan’.  “We all are born and die some day. It is this phase between birth and death, when we should do what we are supposed to do.” says Tamang.
