Souls of My City: Self-dependent in Kathmandu

Jamuna Magar, 46, is a new face in Kathmandu. She’s been living in the capital with her eldest son for only four months. She says she was married at just 14 and gave birth to her first child two years later. Magar says, “I lost many children following pregnancy-related complications. However, my two sons and one daughter are still alive.” She stated that the complications led to several health problems. “My husband used to work in India. I raised all my children by myself, and further ensured a quality education for them.” 

At present, she is stationed in front of Krishna Mandir, Patan selling corn. She says she left her husband to live with her son because of personal issues with her husband.  However, wishing to be self-dependent, Magar chose to start her own business.
