Souls of My City: Pride for culture

Souls of My City: Pride for culture

Sita Magar and Sujan Magar are both 19-year-olds originally from Syangja. They are currently living in Samakhusi of Kathmandu, and are studying at the Pasang Lhamu College. The friends-duo had donned the traditional Magar attire to celebrate Maghe Sankranti festival on Monday. Every year, the Magar community gathers at certain locations in Kathmandu and prepare various foods to celebrate the festival. This year, they had gathered at Bhrikutimandap. “We feel proud to wear our traditional dress during festive occasions,” Sita and Sujan said. Both of them had left Syangja to come to Kathmandu for higher education after their SEE. They feel that living in villages is easier as people there are close to each other, while in cities everyone is busy with their own lives. “However, we have grown habituated to living amid the urban facilities in Kathmandu, and we cannot imagine going back to village life which lacks even basic amenities.”
