Souls of My City: Better together
Gopal and Binda Nepali, of Naubise – Dhading, have spent the better part of their conjugal life selling Taparis near Kasthamandap. They have been running their shop in a narrow lane of Basantapur, which leads to Kastamandap, for the past 16 years. They first began their business by selling Sal leaves but eventually started stitching taparis as well. With time, Binda also started taking orders from customers. “We used to work hard in the fields in the village. But our produce would only last for six months. Since we started working in Kathmandu, we have been able to sustain our family,” explained Gopal. In a shy tone, Binda added, “Our life is just like everybody else’s. Everyone faces problems in their lives. Problems are inevitable.” The couple have been together for 25 years.
