Souls of my city

Souls of my city

Strong and determined

Sankhuwasabha’s Bimala Khadka vividly remembers her unfortunate accident. Recollecting the details of the incident, she explained, “It was 20 years back. Those days, I had hair exceeding up to my waist.

That day, I had gone to the rice mill to flatten rice. Somehow, my hair got stuck in the mill and the machine peeled off half my face.” Following the incident, she was rushed to Kathmandu for treatment. She says the doctors transplanted the skin from her thigh onto her face, to cover up the skin tear.

After the treatment, she was left to rest for an entire year, affecting her studies. However, she was determined to rejoin her grade-10 education. At present, Khadka is engaged with tailoring in a Kathmandu based organization. She has found many friends in the organization. Moreover, Khadka is now married. It’s been a little over eight months since her marriage. “It was an arranged marriage. He has accepted me the way I am,” she added.
