DHARAN, August 26: A son-in-law committed suicide by slitting his throat after killing his own mother-in-law in Dharan.

According to the Area Police Office, Dharan, the 71-year-old NK Son-armaya Bhujel was left seriously injured by her son-in-law after being attacked with a machete on Thursday evening at Gumba Marg, Dharan 8. According to police, injured Bhujel could not be treated at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan and was referred to the Biratnagar Nursing Home at 10 PM.

According to DSP Buddha Shrestha, the son-in-law, Ram Bahadur Ramtel, 41, died on the spot. Ramtel hit his mother-in-law on the head with a machete while she was sitting, and Ramtel also slit his throat with the same machete. He died on the spot after slitting his own throat. 

Ramtel hails from Sanodumma of Pauwadumba Rural Municipality-5 in Bhojpur. His eldest son lives in Dharan-13. On Wednesday, he came from Bhojpur and stayed with his elder son. On the next day, he went to his in-laws' home and assaulted his mother-in-law.

According to Dhan Bahadur Rai, Ward Chairman of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-8, family members have informed that Bhujel and his wife had been quarreling for some time. His wife went to Dubai only about a month and a half ago. 

It has come to light that they had a business in Niketan Galli in Dharan, but after incurring losses his wife decided to close the business and go abroad. Ward Chairman Rai said that he could have committed suicide by hitting his mother-in-law with a machete in an apparent bid to take revenge against his wife.
