Social workers for transformation of society: Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU, March 22: Minister for Health Gagan Thapa has praised the role of the social activists and social workers for their vital  contribution in the transformation of the society.

Speaking at a program organized in the memorial building of Tribhuvan University, on the occasion of 11th World Social Work Day-2017, Minister Thapa stressed on the importance of formulating the work plans and policy making to institutionalize the subject of the Social Work citing that the professional and commercial social activists and social workers are engaged with various professions.

Minister Thapa was of the view that Tribhuvan University should modify the curriculum as per the requirement that would support in institutionalizing the norms and values of democracy.

National Chairman of the program organizing committee and concept designer Saroj Giri, said that the main object of organizing the program is to work on the identification and differentiation of the social activist and social workers by unifying the colleges of social work.

Stating that the subject of social work is still not widely accepted in the society, Giri said that the program will help to evaluate the role of the social workers properly.

During the program, Minister Thapa felicitated Founder Coordinator of the Social Work of the Master program Associate Prof. Dr. Mrigendra Bahadur Karki and University degree holder in Social Work in 1982 Dr. Dilliram Adhikari for their contribution in the faculty. 7,500 students from 75 colleges and 500 social workers from across the country attended the program.
