Snowfall likely to occur from Friday

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Snowfall is expected from Friday due to the western low pressure system (western crater) that comes with the western wind.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, due to the western low pressure system that comes with the westerly winds, there will be partial to normal cloud cover in the far west, Karnali, Lumbini and Gandaki provinces from Friday. There is a possibility of light snowfall in some places in the high hills and mountains of the far west, Karnali and Gandaki provinces.

Similarly, light rain is expected in some parts of the far west. Due to the system, the temperature is likely to drop further in the coming days, the department said. The department has urged people to take necessary safety and precaution to avoid the cold and snowfall as the weather system may affect the daily life of the people including mountaineering and air transport.

According to the latest report of the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley today is less than three degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is 17.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Jumla is minus 5.7 degrees Celsius and the maximum in Bhairahawa is 28.4 degrees Celsius.
