KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Influenced by the westerly wind, the Kathmandu Valley received the first winter rain of this year on Saturday.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), light rain is occurring at many places of Province 1 and some places of Province 2, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province. Similarly, light to moderate snowfall at some places of the high mountainous region is also taking place on Saturday due to the presence of a low pressure weather system.

Major hill stations around the Kathmandu Valley including Chandragiri, Godawari, Shivapuri and Nagarkot have also witnessed snowfall followed by a drop in temperature due to the winter rain.

The MFD has predicted partly to generally cloudy weather in Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province and mainly fair weather in the rest of the country on Saturday night. Similarly, light rain is expected in some places of Province 1, Province 2 and Bagmati Province and in one or two places of Gandaki Province.

The weather, however, will start improving starting Sunday afternoon.

The division has asked the people to apply necessary precautions against the dipping mercury throughout the country due to the influence of winter rain. The western part of the country reported rainfall from Friday.
