Snowfall hits life in west Nepal

SURKHET, March 1 : Lives in mid and far-west Nepal have become tougher due to incessant snowfall. 

The recurring snowfall has troubled the lives of people, especially in high-hill areas. Snowfall has been taking place in the districts of Karnali Province, including Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Jumla, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Dailekh and Rukum. 

Likewise, snowfall is recurrently occurring in Sudurpaschim province districts, including Achham, Bajhang, Bajura, Darchula, Baitadi, Doti and Dadeldhura. 

Madhav Prasad Dhungana, Chief District Officer, Humla, shared the bottom area of the district has witnessed two feet of snow while Limi, Muchu, Chala, Hilsa and Yari of Namkha rural municipality in the nortnen part of the district have around five-feet of snow. 

Though the snowfall occurred here for 15 times has immoderately toughened the life, no human and animal casualties have been reported to the date, said CDO Dhungana. 
Normal life of people from Dolpa, Mugu and Jumla districts is also found very complicated due to snowfall. 

It has also caused disruption of air and land transport services in the mountainous districts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Besides, the government offices, schools, industries and non-government offices have also been closed down due to freezing temperature. 

"A team of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police and National Investigation is now clearing the snow piled up at the airport for the resumption of flight services", he added. 
The most hit hard from snowfall and dipping temperature are children, patients, senior citizens and disadvantaged people, shared Netra Bahadur Shahim a local journalist. 

This is so far the biggest snowfall in a decade, Shahi further said. 

A person at Patarasi rural municipality in Dolpa district had lost his life owing to extreme cold weather condition.  RSS
