Jewelry worth Rs 4 million stolen from Birgunj bank

BIRGUNJ, Nov 28: Gold and silver jewelry worth Rs 4 million were stolen from the safe of Bhanumarga-based Agricultural Development Bank in Birgunj on Sundaay night.

About 72 tolas of gold and 27 tolas of silver were stolen. According to the bank, the theft took place on Sunday night and was noticed only on Monday morning.

“The thieves broke into the second floor of the bank by cutting the window grills,” said Deputy Inspector of Police (DSP) Chakra Raj Joshi, of District Police Office, Parsa. According to him, the culprits found keys stored in a cupboard, and then successfully opened the safe and made off with the jewelry.

DSP Joshi said they are starting investigation in the case. “The keys were placed in inappropriate place. We have detained two security guards for interrogation.”

The guards – Brijkishor Chauhan and Umesh Yadav are in police custody for interrogation as police suspect the bank's employees might be involved in the theft.
