Six killed, three injured in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

OKHALDHUNGA, March 31: At least six persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when a passenger jeep met with an accident in Okhaldhunga on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the ill-fated jeep (Ba 16 Cha 2207) skidded off the road and fell down into the gorge at Bhadarekhola. Further details have not been received as rescue operation is underway, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Mingma Sherpa, 55, from Olajung, Shamgel Sherpa from Phattalung of Taplejung district; Ngawan Seturng Sherpa, 40, Norbu Sherpa, 35, Wangda Sherpa and Doma Sherpa from Bouddha, Kathmandu, said Police Inspector at District Police Office, Rajeev Shrestha. 

The accident took place when the jeep (Ba 16 Cha 2207) heading to Kathmandu from Solukhumbu district fell some 200 meter down the roadway at Hilepani, killing six passengers on the spot. 

Three others including a child and driver Krishna Shrestha were seriously injured in the incident. All the injured have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.
