KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Police on Sunday arrested six individuals including a ward chairperson on the charge of settling a rape case for one tola (11.56 grams) at Sigas Rural Municipality in Baitadi district.
The arrested had lured the 18-year-old girl, and settled the rape case by offering one tola gold to the victim, according to police.
The arrested are Sher Singh Sawad, 45, the ward chair of Sigas Municipality, Manoj Singh Dhami, 40, Amar Singh Dhami, 40, Rajendra Singh Dhami, 32, Nara Bahadur Dhami, 35, and another 31-year-old male.
A few months ago, 21-year-old Deepak Singh Dhami had “raped” the victim, and the ward chairperson and locals settled the case by providing gold to the victims. According to police, Deepak is still at large, and police have intensified a search operation to nab him.
