KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Sitaram Yechury, a prominent Indian communist leader and General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has passed away at the age of 72.
According to the Indian Express, Yechury died after a prolonged illness at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi, due to respiratory complications.

Elected as CPI(M) General Secretary in 2015, Yechury played a key role in strengthening ties between the Indian government and Nepali political parties, particularly during Nepal's 2062 People's Movement. His influence was crucial during the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, when leftist parties held a significant presence in India's parliament.
