Sit-in demanding provincial capital

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: A sit-in and gherao was organized by the provincial capital formation committee in front of the PM's residence, Baluwatar demanding Dhankuta as the capital of province no. 1. 

.Demanding that Dhankuta be declared the capital of the province, members of the committee staged a sit-in from 8 to 11 in the morning, according to NC Dhankuta secretary Bijaya Santoshi Rai.

Provincial Assembly member Indramani Parajuli, Bina Rai, Kusum Kumari Shrestha, RC Tumba, ex-MP Manohar Narayan Shrestha, campaign committee coordinator Umesh Ghimire took part in the programme and pledged to continue the protest movement until the demand was met. 

The committee also submitted a memorandum including signatures of more than 700,000 people to Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, according to Secretary Rai.
