KATHMANDU, March 25: The Non – Violence Lovers Vegetarian Association today staged a sit-in at the Bhagwati Temple at Bhagawati Bahal in Naxal – 1 demanding an end to animal sacrifice at holy place as temples and shrines.

The protest is part of the association's mega campaign launched a year ago to ban animal sacrifices at the temples.

The campaigners stayed at the temple from 7 am to 9 am where animal sacrifices are performed on every Saturdays and appealed to the devotees not to sacrifice animals to please gods and goddesses.

Association's President Bikesh Shrestha said the temple is a place where vegetarians and non-vegetarians visit and called for an end to animal sacrifice that hurt people who visit the temples.

The campaign started from Dakshinkaali on May 30, 2015 and has been holding awareness programmes in around a thousand temples across the country where ritual of animal sacrifice is practised, said campaigner Durganath Dahal. RSS
