Sindhupalchowk reports third COVID-19 case

SINDHUPALCHOWK, June 7: One more youth aged 20 tested positive for COVID-19 in Sindhupalchowk on Sunday.

With this, Sindhupalchowk now has three cases of COVID-19 with one death.

An India -returnee from Indrawati Rural Municipality at the Melamchi-based Regional Quarantine Centre tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Durgadatta Chapagain, a Senior Public Health Officer, the throat swab sample of the infected youth tested positive for COVID-19 at the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku. “We are tracing his travel history,” he added.

Also, a youth (second case in the district) from the same rural municipality had already been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease. He is currently undergoing treatment at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease hospital at Teku, Kathmandu. He had also returned from India and was staying at the same quarantine facility in Melamchi.

The first case in Sindhupalchowk was a female from Barahbise who died at Dhulikhel Hospital. She was the first fatality due to COVID-19 in Nepal.

In recent days, the number of migrant workers returning from India has increased in the district. In the last two weeks, more than 70 India returnees have entered the district who are in various quarantine facilities.
