SINDHULI, Dec 23: Stating that it is not possible to imagine a prosperous state without the improvement of the educational sector, elected representatives in Sindhuli have started formulating policies for the development of community schools.

Chiefs of municipalities and rural municipalities have started running campaigns for the development of community schools. There are two municipalities and seven rural municipalities in Sindhuli and all of them are determined to uplift the standard of community schools. 

They have formulated policies to take stern action against the teachers who try to disturb the school environment by engaging in politics or other activities. 

Pushpa Bahadur Karki, the chairperson of Golanjor Rural Municipality, stressed that education should be prioritized in comparison to other sectors. 

"First of all, we need to change the working pattern of teachers," said Karki. According to him, teachers should compulsorily attend school and do their job dutifully.

Similarly, the principals of various schools in Tinpatan Rural Municipality have been told to formulate strict rules for both teachers and students and make sure that they are implemented properly. 

Karna Bahadur Thapamagar, the chairperson of Tinpatan, stated that the principals who do not obey the order would be relieved from their position.

Besides, teachers have been urged to send their children to community schools instead of private schools. As per the locals, some teachers have started requesting for transfers or are seeking jobs in other schools after the local units started formulating strict rules for community schools.

Dirbu Singh Moktan, the vice-chairperson of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, informed Republica that the schools with fewer students would be merged. He says no teacher will be paid just on the basis of their attendance without teaching students. 

Despite strict rules and policies, some teachers are still to get rid of their old habits. They are openly involved in politics, which is strictly forbidden by the local units. While many are associated with politics, some are busy working for INGOs.
