Simrik Air helicopter crashes in Sankhuwasabha (UPDATE)

KATHMANDU, May 5: A helicopter belonging to Simrik Air crashed in Sankhuwasabha district on Friday.


According to assistant chief district officer in Sankhuwasabha, Mohanmani Ghimire, the helicopter met with the accident while landing at Siprung of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 in the district.

Ghimire said, “Locals have mentioned about the Simrik Air helicopter crash. Details of the accident are awaited. We have made requisition with the Ministry for Home Affairs for a helicopter for rescue operation.”


The ill-fated helicopter was carrying the construction materials for the Upper Arun Hydroelectric Project when it crashed. 


Tribhuvan International Airport Spokesperson Teknath Sitaula said that the helicopter had been out of contact with the Tumlingtar Airport since morning. Further details concerning the incident are awaited.
