POKHARA, July 9: A shutdown called by Tamuwan Magarat Struggle Committee and Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (Nefin) has affected normal life in Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province.
These two organisations called for a Gandaki province general strike for today to press for their demand of naming the province as the Tamuwan Magarat Province.
Transport service has come to a complete halt since the morning due to the shutdown. Teaching and learning activities at educational institutions have also been affected due to this.
The activists of the organisations are mobilising at various cross-roads in the city to enforce the shutdown.
Spokesman of the Kaski District Police Office, Rabindraman Gurung, said the shutdown is so far peaceful. The State Assembly of Province 4 had on July 6 passed the proposal of naming the province as Gandaki Province by a two-thirds majority. RSS
