KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Miss Nepal Shrinkhala Khatiwada's journey to the top ended after reaching Top 12 during the finale of 68th edition of Miss World held on Saturday in Sanya, China. Her journey halted after the panel of judges for the contest chose Miss Thailand among the three contestants selected from Asia.

However, Khatiwada is the first Miss Nepal to win 'Beauty with A Purpose Challenge' award along with ‘Multimedia Challenge’ award. Her ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ was based on the lifestyle of the Chepang Community. During the 8 minutes’ video, she portrayed the condition of the Chepang community. The video showcased the poverty and also focused on how they were deprived from fundamental health and education facilities. 

Speaking about her ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ project, Khatiwada revealed her reason for choosing the project. She said as an architect she realized the power of infrastructure. So she decided to choose indigenous tribes of her district. She said, “I decided to build a health post in Makwanpur, where problems like Child Mariage and Mal Nutrition are common. 

Over the past six months, I have seen changes in the development with health centers and health education facilities that we provided them.” She thinks her advocacy is for change and to make people believe in a power of a single human.  It was with these awards that she secured her position in the Top 30 of Miss World 2018. 

Khatiwada, 22, originally hails from Hetauda and has earned a degree in Architecture from Pulchowk Campus Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University. She is also a professional architect.
This year Miss Mexico, Vanessa Ponce De Leon won the ‘Miss World 2018’ title.
