Shrestha sent to 7-day judicial custody over child trafficking

KAHTMANDU, July 11: The District Court of Kathmandu has remanded Rajani Shrestha, the managing director of Putalisadak-based Sara Link International Pvt Ltd., to seven-day police custody over allegations of her involvement in trafficking nine Nepali children to the United States of America.

Metropolitan Police Circle of Hanumandhoka had brought Shrestha to the court on Sunday. The police are preparing to file cases against her under Human Trafficking Act.

“We have found more proofs that Shrestha was involved in illegal activities. Investigation regarding the matter is still underway,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Bikram Sigh Thapa of the Hanumandhoka Circle.

Shrestha had flown to New York on June 24 with 12 children for summer school, four of them girls and eight boys. All the children were below 16 years of age. She allegedly made the children to disappear from the airport and returned to the country with just three children.
