KATHMANDU, Feb 5: The month-long Swasthani Brata Katha festival is ending today. Today, the fast ends on the day of Magh Shukla Purnima.
The recitation of the stories describing the glory of Sri Swasthani Mata (Devi) from the day of Paush Shukla Purnima (full moon day) will be duly concluded today. The Swasthani Mela, which has been going on for a month on the banks of the Shali River in Kathmandu, will also end today. According to the legend, Parvati, the daughter of the Himalaya, fasted for health and got Lord Mahadev.
In the Magh Mahatmya under the Kedar section of the Skanda Purana, the dialogue between Kumar and Agastya is told and heard as a healthy story. Today, after midday, the fast is completed by ritually performing pooja, staying awake at night and swimming in Phulpati river the next morning.
