The Nepali month of Shrawan is synonymous to a green month and is highly auspicious for Hindu women. During this month, women are seen donned in color green. Be it their outfits or accessories, they opt for color green. Most of the Hindu women observe fasting to pay homage to Lord Shiva. And green bangles and hennas are the must have things for the women this month.
Though the trend of Shrawan month is changing due to modernization, women have been giving continuity of traditional way of fasting according to Hindu culture. One such devotee is actress Rekha Thapa who had been observing the fasting in the past, but couldn’t give continuity this year. “I’ve prohibited taking fasting this year due to the combustion of Jupiter. Because performing any ritual during this period is regarded as inauspicious,” Thapa says.

She has turned into pure vegetarian for the month of Shrawan. Likewise, for former Miss Nepal Sugarika KC, Shrawan is highly auspicious month and she has been observing fasting on this month since she was nine. “I was nine when I started fasting for the first time and continue fasting,” KC shares. Sugarika who is pure vegetarian has prioritized dairy products in Shrawan. Besides, she also adores mushroom and green vegetables.
Then, actress Sarita Lamichhane calls herself as a devotee of lord Shiva. “You don’t have to wait for the month of Shrawan to worship the god. And, it is a false belief that observing fast on Shrawan will give longevity to the devotee’s husband,” she stresses. Lamichhane, however, loathes the trend of donning green colored bangle, attire, and mehendi. Actress Deepa Shree Niraula regularly observes fasting every Thursday but never on Shrawan.
