SC issues show cause notice over govt decision to grant amnesty to Resham Chaudhary

KATHMANDU, June 7: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of the government over the granting of general amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, who was found guilty of murder in the Tikapur incident.

KATHMANDU, June 7: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of the government over the granting of general amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, who was found guilty of murder in the Tikapur incident.


A single bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut issued the show cause notice on Wednesday. It may be noted that on the occasion of Republic Day, President Ramchandra Paudel granted amnesty to Chaudhary, who was convicted by the District Court, High Court and Supreme Court for murder in the incident that took place in Tikapur of Kailali, on the recommendation of the government.

The show cause notice was issued in response to a writ petition filed by Sharada Kadayat Bohara, wife of one of the victims of the Tikapur incident, against the decision to grant amnesty.
